EPISODE 5: “Kangin’s Story – Watermelon”

Part 1

“Aish…” he hissed as he tried to find another way after seeing familiar faces.
Some Camomiles and E.L.F.s must have heard about him being in Jeju but he hope not. Once the news comes out, he’s dead meat.
He’s been there for almost eight hours after the plane landed but it’s really hard to find a place to stay where he won’t be noticed. Up to now, he has succeeded to hide well. And the sudden discovery of his whereabouts can cause him death. He’ll die not because of his fans or antis but in the hands of his manager and the other members.
He called his manager hyung yesterday to ask for permission to go home but ended up sneaking to a plane to go to Jeju. Nobody knows that he was there except his father; and if the members found out that he’s in Jeju, they will certainly kill him. He even turned off his phone to prevent them from calling him. But besides that, he has his own reasons too.
For the past few days since the accident, he received various calls, not from fans but from antis. They always say that the members should have died and that they were just lucky enough to survive. All the while, he thought that the anti-fans were already gone after years of them being on a hiatus but he was wrong.
He wrapped his scarf tighter around his neck and pulled down his beanie. It’s not impossible to find someone dressed like him during a cold winter night. The wind was almost freezing accompanied by mild snowfall so he managed to blend easily with the crowd. His problem was that his burns were starting to sting. He hasn’t taken medications yet plus he wants to scratch the wounds on his arm.
His burns were not fully recovered yet; he also has wounds from glass shards that flew his way during their fall. But as stubborn as he was, he wrapped his wounds insisting that it would only hurt him more when they touched his clothes and he successfully convinced his doctor.
He looked at the mirror beside him and saw his reflection. He doesn’t look like an idol at all. He has grown a mustache and has stubbles on his face. Even if it irritates him and he wanted to remove them, he stopped himself from doing so, thinking that it can help him. Because of these things, people don’t recognize him easily.
After walking for a few more minutes, he found a secluded street. It has been a while since he last went to Jeju. It would have been fun if they went together. It will be a riot, but certainly, it would be much more fun. He sighed. If the accident didn’t happen, they will surely be playing games now. Singing and dancing. What a gift for Christmas they had.
He looked at his watch, it was already 7:30 but he hasn’t had anything for dinner yet. His reason for going to this place was never to have fun or to eat food. His intention was to start looking for Leeteuk. He can’t seem to take it; the fact that he can’t do something but just stay at home and wait for the news.
He turned to his right, but the scene stopped him. What’s this?
~~
“Let me go!” she pulled her arm from her abductor and succeeded.
She tried to run but the man caught her again through her hair and grabbed her wrist.
“Why (Name)~yah? Where do you think you’re going, huh?!” she earned a slap from the man.
“I didn’t do it! I already told you!” She wriggled and tried to escape him. “I’m not a fool, if you’re framing me up, you’ll see!”
She kicked the man’s shin and ran. When she looked back she saw him take out a rusty dagger. Her eyes grew large in horror imagining the filthy blade cutting her flesh. He would not think twice of killing her, she’s the only person who can make things worse for him. She’s the only person who can challenge the man.
“Go, run for your life (name)~yah.” He walked slowly, grazing the blade of his dagger on the wall. “Do you think you can run away from me?”
She stumbled upon a tire that lies on the hard ground and fell. He saw the opportunity and ran to her.
“It’s over!” his scary laugh filled the long street.
She closed her eyes thinking that it would be the end of her. Freaking life she had. She’s regretting the day she was born in this kind of life. She’s really unlucky.
                “Ugh!”
                “Let’s go!”
She was pulled by someone she didn’t know with an unbelievable strength forcing her to stand up and follow him. She looked back to the man who was planning to kill her and saw him lying on the ground clutching his midsection.
“Faster,” the man before her said as he continued to drag her helplessly to the street on their left. “Do you want to die?”
“Not here, we can’t go in here! He will find us for sure. Are you stupid?” she removed her arm from his grasp and hit the man’s arm. “Don’t you know what you’ve just done? You’re against one of the most dangerous men here in Jeju!”
She then pulled him towards the other direction, still maintaining the pace they started. It would be dangerous if ever he found them. By now, he would have called his followers to look for her. She’s dead. But that’s not the point of running away. This man with her will surely be affected by his wrath as well.
They stopped once they reached one of her safe houses inside the wilderness. Yes, the wilderness is where she hides for the safety of her life. But now, it’s not just for her but for this silly boy as well. Who is he anyway?
Without realizing it, she was staring at him while still holding his hand. He wasn’t complaining though, but she was mesmerized. The longer she looked at him, the more familiar he becomes. Wait…too much familiarity…he seems to look like someone she knows a lot.
“K—K—Kangin?!” she threw his hand and wanted to hide immediately. Her accent showed itself making her more embarrassed.
~~
He was captured and stuck inside the forest, trapped with a beautiful lady. But isn’t she a beast?
“Imonim(aunt),” she hissed at her phone. “Yeah, I’m here again.”
He shook his head. After giving him dinner and letting him stay for the night, she hasn’t said a word to him. She’s been talking to her aunt for almost an hour and has forgotten about his existence. But it’s nice staying at this house. Even if it was quite small, it’s pretty comfortable. The heat system was working well and the house was beautiful.
He forced a cough. “Excuse me.”
She looked at him. “Ne, I’ll just talk to you later.” She placed the phone back to its cradle.
She walked towards him; all the signs of her startled self from the previous night were gone. Is she mentally disordered or what? “Don’t try to ask me to take you back to the main streets because I won’t. You have probably seen what happened and I’m not planning to risk my life for someone like you. Don’t worry, I had already asked my aunt to help you with a place to stay while you’re looking for Leeteuk~ssi.”
She turned her back on him. “And,” she looked again. “Thank you for helping me.”
~~
She wanted to hug him so badly. Never did she ever imagine that she would one day meet her favorite member. She was infatuated to him for so long, since they debuted in 2005. She was a normal girl after all. But meeting him at these circumstances, it was really a bad timing.
She can’t remember how many times she flipped on her bed last night thinking about him. She knows that it was warm in the living room because she checked the temperature twice before entering her room, but she’s worried that he’s not used to sleeping on the couch.
When she went out to see how he’s doing, she was shocked to see him beside the window, crying. He misses their leader and shyly wiped his tears away. She was touched to see the big man crying so she gave him a cup of hot chocolate filled with mallows and talked to him all night long.
He was not the same person she always sees on the television. He’s…well, he’s much more transparent in person, more human. He has a tender heart, maybe that’s what men realize after they have entered the army. But now, it’s time to say goodbye. She can’t let him stay with her. It only means danger, for the two of them.
~~
“Where to…where to…” he looked around, turned and spun many times. He was lost.
He kicked the fallen tree branch and regretted it. “Aish!” he lifted his foot and rubbed it. “Where do I go from here?”
He left the house before noon but it’s already afternoon and he hasn’t found his way back to the city proper. He wonders how that happened because last night, it was as if they went in too fast. It’s getting darker as the winter clouds covered the wilderness with fog and he finds it hard to look for the way back. His back was aching too because of the bag he was carrying.
He cursed. “Was that girl just playing around with me? Haish!” he walked straight to where his feet were carrying him. Maybe his luck will turn.
As he walked continuously, he ended up just going back to the house! “Is she a witch?!”
Just then, she came out of the house carrying a bin. “Oh, why did you come back? Have you forgotten something?”
He walked near her and looked at her with fierce eyes. “Are you tricking me? Or did you put a spell on me? I’ve been looking around that forest for who knows how long but I still ended up here!”
She was startled, looking at him with big eyes. “W—What? Hah,” then she started talking fast in her accent. He only got words that sounded like “ungrateful person”, “so full of himself” and “proud”.
                “This kid~” he started.
She threw the bin she was carrying with difficulty earlier and he was quite taken aback by the sudden explosion of strength from the small woman. “Yah! We’re almost the same age so don’t go saying that I’m a kid. I pointed the way to you, and you just don’t know how to follow directions.”
She walked towards him and grabbed his collar. “Do you remember last night? Do you know who you’re talking to? I…I work for the underground.” She stuttered a little. “So don’t you mess with me.”
~~
Well, somehow she lied a little bit. She’s not a big name, but she really works for the underground. She’s an accomplice. Someone not really minded by the big ones but plays an important role.
To her shock, he started to laugh, mocking her. It made her blood boil even more when he started patting her head. “I understand. I understand. Okay, fine, but can I stay for another night?”
She let go of his collar, “You’re so arrogant. Do you think I will let you stay here? Freeze to death.”
                She turned around.
“Ahhhh…I’m used to death threats you know.” He followed her, carrying the bin she threw. She was supposed to make a fire outside but the man came. “In exchange, I will cook for dinner. Please?”
She looked at him. “Just for another night.” Then her phone rang, “Imonim…he’s still here don’t worry.”
“Just let him stay there for two more days. The tenants extended their stay,” her aunt apologetically said. “And he can’t stay at the place I vacated yesterday alone. You know how people are in our place. I’m really sorry.”
“What? Imonim, two days…I can’t let him—”
                “Mianhae.”
She hung the phone. “Imonim? Imonim!”
She almost threw her phone and glared at the man behind her. “You really…” she looked some more and found it hard to be mad at him. She just sighed and gave up. “Come in; guess you’re staying for two more days.”
He gave her a cute smile which she can’t believe he can give, with that mustache and beard, isn’t it supposed to be creepy? But her knees went weak and her heart rammed hard to her ribs she can’t do anything but float to the pink clouds.
                “You’ll do the dinner.”

1+1 = Syntax Error!

PART 4

“You changed a lot…”
She didn’t dare look back to the man who saved her. She was almost killed by a crazy man who wanted to take away her money and this person helped her to run away. They ended in a narrow alley in Apgeujong-dong.
She stopped walking and tried to stop herself from running into his arms and admit that she was wrong for being such a brat. Everything has changed now. She was not the spoiled rich girl he used to know one month ago, she’s already the CEO of Song Winery. A woman who hates mistakes and doesn’t know how to smile…a walking hell for the life of her employees.
She turned. “I already thanked you haven’t I? So please stop acting like were friends.”
                “(Name)~ssi…”
She sighed and looked at him again. He was still the same Yesung she knew. An undeniably handsome man with the scary eyes. He was still the one she loves…but should not love.
“Kamsahamnida.” She said and walked away.
Her heart hurts…seeing him this way. If only things haven’t ended the way they did. She wiped the tears that started to fall, hoping that the feeling fades away as soon as it came.
~~
“Makkoli, I should have bought soju instead…I don’t get drunk by this one…” he chuckled and lifted the bottle to his lips and ended it in one gulp.
He can’t believe how fast she has changed. You won’t even see any signs of her childish acts. Her long straight hair was already auburn and it complemented her eyes all the more. She looked prettier, more matured. No wonder they kept talking about her.
“Yeah! She’s the bomb.”  A man smirked.
He clenched his little fists. He can’t help but watch her from across the restaurant and he silently followed her out. What might have happened to her if he hadn’t come after her? Who knows what that bastard would’ve done if he has not come to pull her?
He stood up and fell. “Or so I thought.” He tried to sit and hit his head on the edge of the table, earning him a curse from himself. “Aish…why do you keep thinking about that girl? Get a life Jong-woon!”
He started to laugh by himself. His heart hurts but he kept on laughing like a mad man. Why did he think that the makkoli will not have an effect? It was the same drink she had that night before the winter ended. Now, it’s already spring…she love springs…but she hates the pollens sticking to her hair. What’s the connection? Aish…
“Hyung! Are you okay??” Ryeowook rushed to him after seeing his condition. He just came, along with the other members. “Why did you drink too much? You should have called someone to be with you.”
He helped him to sit. “You’ve had too much to drink.” Ryeowook looked at the table filled with empty bottles of makkoli.
“That’s exactly the same thing I told her. She shouldn’t have taken makkoli on her own. But it’s my fault right? I didn’t join her when she asked me to come with her.” He laughed again. “It’s my fault why she’s like that now. Look at the two of us!”
“Yah, what’s happening here, huh?” Leeteuk who came from the dorm upstairs lifted his face. “Why are you crying?”
“Crying? Me?” he lifted his hand and felt his cheeks. There were tears spilling from his eyes but he didn’t know.
He was still laughing while crying. At the same time he was cursing himself for acting that way and cursed some more for cursing aloud.
Heechul’s laugh echoed through the walls of their dorm. “Yesung is becoming more of a curse machine than me! Aigoo…” he patted his head. “You’re making daddy proud.”
His mind was drifting away. He closed his eyes and clasped his chest, he was already numb because of the alcohol but he can still feel the pain in his heart. How can he just realize how much she meant when she was already gone?  His tears continued to flow like river and Sungmin lend his shoulder for him.
“Hyung, if you have problems just tell us. You can take it all out.” But he didn’t hear it anymore because the darkness pulled him in.
Leeteuk tapped Sungmin’s shoulder. “It’s another girl problem…seems like love disease is spreading to all of us. Yah, I think he lost it. Just take him to his room before he drools.”
Sungmin lifted him. “Hyung?” He looked at him and saw his eyes. “Goodness! Hyung!!”
~~
“I said I don’t want it.” She went out of the room and ran.
It was like this again, just like four months ago. That time, she was running because she doesn’t want to get well but it was much more different today. She doesn’t like drinking medications just to relieve her stress.
When she woke up, she saw herself in the same room she was before, a drip connected to her arm. They said that she fainted because of over fatigue and dehydration. She overworks herself too much that her body gave up.
She turned to her left towards the same room in the west wing where she used to hide. She can clearly remember every moment that she spent there. Stopping in front of the door, she hesitated. Maybe there will be someone else in the room. But in the end, she still chose to enter it.
Everything was almost the same, from the placement of the bed up to the color of the flowers beside the empty bed. So was there really no one?
Slowly, she walked towards the window and opened the curtains hanging there just like the way she does whenever she went there before. She can almost hear how Yesung used to speak to her.
“Yah, why are you posing like that? So annoying…” he’ll always say when she puts air inside her cheeks before they take a picture. “You eat like a pig. Are you sure you’re rich?” he’ll say when she asks for another serving of the food he gives her. “What’s with your hair? You look stupid.” He’ll say when she puts her hair up. That was him…she never has anything to do that he wouldn’t react negatively.
“Omma, I thought you will be…”
She looked at the patient who just came out of the washroom. “Jong-woon oppa?”
It was like a dream. Do her eyes play a trick on her? Maybe she’s just dreaming again. She always dreams about him. Then maybe, she at the hospital was also a dream. She tried to wake up and failed.
A smile wiped across his handsome face. He looks tired too. He was even pushing the drip stand as he walks towards her. “You can’t find anywhere to hide again? Do they point you out just like before? Do you want me to keep you again?”
She looked at him. Just like when they met a few nights ago, her heart beats faster. She felt the unbelievably strong urge to hug him tight now that they were standing face-to-face…it was Jong-woon…her Jong-woon oppa.
He was sick too? Maybe it was destiny that they always get sick at the same moment. Maybe they were really meant for each other. But loving him…it only means hurting herself.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t know you were here…” she walked past him.
“(Name)~ah…” he said in a very soft voice she almost didn’t hear it. “(Name)~ah…please don’t leave me again…”
She was stopped walking, tears started to fill her eyes. He finally called her informally. Just like real friends…or maybe siblings. Maybe, he was thinking of her as his little sister but still it felt good how he called her that way.
                “(Name)~ah…just stay here…please…”
And she did. She didn’t look back but she stayed. Her feet were glued to the ground as his voice echoed in her mind over and over like a broken record. She can hear the rolling of his drip stand as he pushed it closer to her. She closed her eyes.
Please, let this be not a dream…I want to stay like this forever with him…no thoughts of tomorrow…just live today like it will be the last…
He held her close, hugging her from behind. “(Name)~ah…I will be good to you. Just please stay with me.”
“Look at us…” she tried to stop her voice from trembling. “Now, you are the one asking me to stay…”
“I know I have been bad to you.” He pressed his lips on her hair and whispered. “I always scold you. I didn’t realize how much you mean to me until you left me but I know that I…”
“Stop…just treat me like your sister oppa.” She closed her eyes tighter, hoping to stop her tears. “Just like before, let me hide under your protection…what we have…it will always be something special.”
His hand wrapped tighter around her waist. He just stood there and held her. She can feel his heartbeat and it says something she wanted to hear but she would rather not. It will only make her feel worse. What if he sees the old her and hate her more? She can’t stand what she’s like right now and she might go back to who she was. If that happens, he will not like her anymore.
“I miss the old you, (name)~ah…” he said through her hair, his breath giving tingling sensations to her. “When you smile, you make me happy. Even if you can be very annoying at times, you can still take away my stress for the whole day. You made my life wonderful even if you’re too wild.”
His sweet voice comes to her like a soft lullaby. His warmth makes her feel safer. He loosened his arms around her but she held him. He seems to get the hint instantly. “Do you really want to stay like siblings (name)~ah? Because if you were to ask me…I’m not willing to stay that way.”
She shook her head. “But I’m scared to disappoint you again…I’m childish and bratty and I’m too loud. I know you will only get a headache when you’re with me.”
“Why are you thinking that way?” he chuckled. “That’s the same reason why I like you. You’re different.”
She wiped her face and looked at him. “Yeah, right. You broke my heart one month ago because of my hyperactiveness and now you’re telling me you like me that way?”
He removed his arms around her. “Yah, I didn’t tell you that I don’t like you’re hyper activeness! I just said that you’re like a sister to me. You’re the one who jumped into conclusions.”
She placed her hands on her hips. “Come on, you’re just saying that now. But why did you turn down my marriage proposal last month?”
“Because I didn’t know that I’m in love with you already!” He shouted just as a woman entered his room.
They both looked at the woman’s startled expression. “Jong-woon?”
                “Omma…”
She smiled brightly. “Oppa, will you still love me if I go back to my old self?” she whispered to him.
                “Of course…” he whispered back.
She ran to his mother and bowed happily. “Annyeong haseyo ohmoni! I will be Yesung oppa’s wife. Song (Name)…ah…no…Kim (Name) imnida!”
He grabbed her mouth shut. “Omma, don’t listen to her. She’s crazy!”
She removed his hand. “That’s why you fell in love with me right? Go, lie about that and I will leave you again.” She looked at his shocked mom. “Ohmoni, I’m sorry for being so loud. I will be good to Jong-woon oppa, I promise.” She lifted her right hand and crossed her heart.
His mother smiled. “What a cute girl we have!” she walked to her and pinched her cheeks. “It’s okay to be loud sometimes, but our Jong-woon here has a very terrible mood so please understand.”
She looked at his son and slapped his butt. “You didn’t tell me you’re already getting married, young man.”
“Ohmoni!!” the boys then entered Yesung’s room and were startled to see the two of them together. “(Name)~ssi?”
Yesung’s mother grabbed her arm and dragged her towards the boys. “This girl over here…she’s going to be my daughter-in-law soon. Isn’t she beautiful?”
“Oh, no…I need to get outta here before anyone starts harassing me again!” and Kyuhyun ran out.
~~
“I’ve been good.” Yesung started. “I decided to work again after I got discharged so I can easily adjust to heavier work for our comeback. Since the doctors didn’t find anything to let me stay at the hospital longer, I’ve got more time to spend for work than the other members. I chose to work rather than to rest because I’m feeling more tired when I rest a lot.”
It was his turn to answer the MC’s question. He doesn’t have anything much to say and he can’t say that he would be getting married. The two of them still have a lot of adjusting to do. They fight every now and then, but that’s normal. She was really loud again. She runs everytime. But he was proud of how much she developed as a person.
She went back to work and handled being the CEO of their company really well. She also went to cooking classes because she said that she needs to prepare to be a housewife for him. She makes him really happy more than anything and she gets along really well with his family.
“I love your wife Jong-woon.” His mom would always say. She spoils her everytime they visit. Sometimes he’s even jealous to his fiancée because his mom would take care of her instead of him.
After the interview, they headed to Namsan for a performance.
“Hello?” he answered his phone when they finished preparing. It was her.
“Oppa! Where are you?” she said sweetly but loudly.
He immediately removed the phone away from his ear before his eardrums exploded and turned the settings to hands-free. “Namsan. We’re going to have a performance.”
“Oh, see you home then. I’m going to Apgeujong-dong again tonight, okay? Saranghae~~~! Bye-bye.”
                “Ne…”
That’s when Hankyung showed up after going out. Looks like there was something wrong but he decided to let it go for a while. He must be just tired. After going back from China that morning, he must feel very worked up of the heavy work that faced him.
“Are you ready?” their manager called all of them. “Let’s go.”
They went up the stage. The warmth of the night became warmer as their beloved E.L.F.s cheered for them whole-heartedly. He scanned the crowd. They still waited after so long. It’s been years since they last went up together in the same stage like this. After all the challenges that they faced, their E.L.F.s still fought with them until now, it made him really happy. But as he continued to look at all those people shouting their names and screaming for them, one person caught his attention.
Coming from the middle of the crowd, a woman tried to make her way to the front. She was wearing a bright sapphire blue headband blinking wildly in the dark, showing of her long blue hair. She was like a walking doll in blue from head to toe. His jaw almost dropped when he saw the big LED board she was lifting as she screamed his name.
                “YESUNG OPPA!!! SARANGHAE!!!”
~~
They bowed together after their number while the E.L.F.s continued to chant “Super Junior”. It was overwhelming, making their hearts weep in joy and pride. It was their lovely ladies cheering them on and standing for them.
“Just now,” Leeteuk started. “Something really caught our attention. It was an E.L.F., one our Yesungie’s own.”
He looked at them and tried to hide his reaction. He knew that they were going to laugh but he’s used to it. Come on, whose not going to after being with his little princess for long? Sometimes she even laughs at herself. He looked at the woman whose eyes were still hopeful as she waved the big board proudly. He can’t imagine how long she did that humungous thing.
“I’m jealous.” Donghae said with a smile. “I hope someone would propose to me that way too!”
He smiled at the sight of her. Her board says this: YESUNG OPPA! MARRY ME! SARANGHAE!
Siwon placed a hand on his shoulder and asked, “Hyung, what will your answer be?”
“Are you sure you want to marry me?” he asked through the microphone and saw her nodding her head excitedly. “If that’s so, then set the date. We’ll get married after you fix the papers.”
All the girls screamed in delight as he saw her jump up and down, shaking everyone around her like a crazy woman. She was really happy and he can’t take that from her. He becomes happy whenever he sees her like that.
~~
She shook the woman beside her. “Did you hear that?! I’m going to be oppa’s wife!”
She screamed. But instead of being hated by the people around her, they seem to be excited as well. They laughed and screamed with her as if they knew each other for long.
“Oh,” said a young woman. “I envy you unnie! They noticed you. Maybe it’s because of your unique hair. It’s cute.”
She smiled at everyone and waved at the boys. “Oppa! I’ll take care of everything! Just marry me! See you!”
She excused herself and went through the crowd.
“But,” Ryeowook took a microphone. “Yesung hyungie is mine.”
“No, he’s mine.” Kyuhyun stated, making everyone laugh.
She laughed too but just waved at them and went off to where her car was parked. This will be one of the most memorable nights of her life. The first one was when they met in winter, fought in winter during her birthday, met again in the night of spring and reconciled and now…she proposed again in the night of summer. Maybe autumn will be a very good time to get married. But not now…maybe next year!
She smiled and inserted her car key through the keyhole. “Thank you Jong-woon oppa…you made my life meaningful. I’m not worthless anymore…”
She felt like flying…but it’s just going to be a feeling…she can’t do that can she?
~~
“Yay!” they popped a champagne bottle and poured one glass for each.
Hankyung excused himself and said that he wanted to rest but still congratulated them. It wasn’t the first time she saw him but they barely see each other before he went to China.  The boys decided to have a party before going to sleep and their managers agreed.
Yesung pulled her to the kitchen while the others stayed at the living room and partied like they haven’t had one in their entire life.
“I thought you were going to Apgeujong-dong? Why were you there?” he pinched her nose lightly. “You lied to me.”
She smiled at him and gave him a hug. “Mianhae…”
He ran a hand through her hair. “I thought you were some kind of a clown with that hair of yours. You said you won’t change your hair anymore?”
“Why? You don’t like it?” she pouted her lips just like always.
He shook his head. “It’s okay. That’s you…I loved you because you were you and I can’t change you, can I?”
She smiled and pulled him to the sink, washing her hair through the faucet there. “It’s washable you know. I won’t change again because you don’t like it. I’ll just stay this way.”
He gave her a towel and smiled. His heart flutters…he wonders how she can make it. “Thank you…”
                “Saranghae…” she whispered.
“Saranghae.” He leaned forward to give her a peck.
“Hyung!” it was Ryeowook. They looked fiercely at him with their scary eyes. “I—I’m sorry!!!”
                He ran and they laughed.
“What are we supposed to do?” Yesung asked.
She shrugged. “I think it was something called a kiss…”
“Silly girl.” He pinched her and continued what they were supposed to do.

PART 3

“Are you waiting for someone?”
It was the day for him to go out of the hospital. After staying for more than a month, finally, it’s time to go home. He was excited to visit his parents and see his children (Ddangkomaeng, Ddangkoming and Ddangkoma).
“No…” he looked behind him once more before entering the car.
It has been unbelievably quiet for a long time now. She did not visit him after he let the boys chase her down the aisle. She was a fast runner they said; even Siwon had a hard time catching his breath. He was still thinking how she managed to beat Siwon and the others while wearing those heels.
“Hyung, I want to go back to work.” He asked their manager who was driving.
He looked at him. “I thought you will be visiting your family in Cheonan? What’s with the change of plans?”
He chuckled. “I just thought better hyung…besides; I can go visit them tomorrow before going back to the usual routine. I felt really tired staying at the hospital for too long.”
He rested his head back and took a deep breath. It was tiring to take a rest for a very long time. But even if that’s the case, he felt like resting some more, at least for now. He closed his eyes and drifted to sleep. Amazingly, he found himself thinking and dreaming about one crazy girl. Maybe he just missed her.
~~
She put down her glasses and eagle-eyed her victim. She’s been following the man for a week now but still cannot find the pattern. Why do they keep on changing locations everyday? But maybe, that’s the entertainment industry. She sipped from the water bottle she was carrying; she’s been outside the building for three straight hours before he finally came out. Her butt hurts a lot.
She looked at the mirror and praised herself for being such a beautiful girl. “You’re gorgeous…” she complemented herself before taking the car in front of the building.
                “Oppa! Jong-woon oppa!”
He looked around and finally spotted her, and how big his eyes went.
~~
What the…?
His eyes almost burst. He was certain he knows that woman. Who wouldn’t after meeting her for long? But she changed her look again. What’s wrong with her?
She was inside an amazing car. Shining silver 2011 Aston Martin DB9. She was fumbling on a button before the top went down, a convertible. But that didn’t make his mouth fall; it was the crazy hair again. It was still long and straight but she made a big bow out of it and it was bright blonde. Just like Lady Gaga’s hair in Poker face! Even the staffs were looking at her.
“You know her Yesung~ssi?” their stylist asked.
“Oh,” Ryeowook who just came out looked at the woman. “Hello (name)~ssi!”
He ran towards the woman. He was excited now wasn’t he? He was gloomy earlier but changed dramatically after seeing the crazy kid. He nodded before heading to the car.
“How have you been? You did your hair?” Ryeowook touched the bow in amazement. “Cute.”
He interrupted, “Yah, why are you here?”
She smiled a brightly, her eyes smiling as well. “I want to ask you out tonight. It’s my birthday.”
“Can I come too?” Ryeowook asked.
“You go with her; I will just go home and rest.” He walked away but the girl followed him and grabbed his hand.
“Oppa…” she pleaded. “Please come with me…”
“I’m tired. If you want, there’s Wookie, he will gladly accompany you. I want to rest.”
She sighed. “I understand…I think I’ll just go now.”
                “Can I come?”
She shook her head. “Sorry oppa…I want to go with Jong-woon oppa alone but he doesn’t like it. I’m really sorry.”
“Oh…just…Happy birthday then.” Ryeowook gave her head a pat and looked at him. “Hyung.”
She closed the door of her car, “Then, I’ll go now!” She smiled again but it was visible that she’s not happy.
He felt guilty, but what can he do about that? He’s tired and he needs to rest. Even Ryeowook looked sad for the kid but he’s really not in the mood. He shook his head and entered their van just as Ryeowook caught his arm.
“Hyung, it’s her birthday. You should have at least greeted her if you won’t come. She looks disappointed.”
“I can’t do anything about that can I? I don’t know how to contact her either so I’ll just greet her when she comes around again.”
He doesn’t know why he was acting that way. When she’s not around, he looks for her. He even waits for her sudden appearance by the door. But when she’s there, he’s annoyed. He sighed, he’s crazy too…but that can’t be helped.
~~
“Hello?” he answered the phone.
                “Yah…yah…oppa!” It was her again.
He looked at the wall clock. It was almost midnight and he was already asleep. Why a sudden call?
“How did you get my number?”
She laughed. “I’m a paparazzi you know…I’m your biggest fan I’ll follow you until you love me…papa…paparazzi!”
“Yah, are you drunk?” He was worried. Knowing this girl, she was crazy sometimes. “Where are you? You’re still not home aren’t you?”
She laughed again. “It’s my birthday! Yeah! Oppa, I’m at Hangang now…near the Moonlight Rainbow bridge in Banpo…waaaaaaaahhhh!! Yeppeuda! Is it safe to go under it? Looks like a waterfall to me.”
He stood up, shaking all the sleepiness inside him. “Yah! You crazy kid! Don’t even try swimming at the river or I’ll kill you with my bare hands!” He shouted at the helpless phone.
“Hyung!” Ryeowook threw a pillow at him. “Don’t be too loud, I’m sleeping!”
“Sorry…” he said to him. “Yah, wait for me. If I don’t see you there I’ll hunt you down and grind your bones. You understand that?”
“You will come? That would be fun!” She laughed again. “Okay, okay…I’ll buy more malkkoki…ahhh makkoli! My bad! Or do you want beer? Aaaaahhh! (Name)~yah is so happy tonight! Saranghae oppa! I’ll wait for you.”
She ended the call. “Aish…this kid.” He bit his lower lip but still ended up changing his clothes. “Ryeowook~ah.” He called his roommate.
“Hhhmmm…” He buried his head deeper under his pillow.
“Ryeowook~ah…” he shook the younger man.
“Hyung, I said I’m sleeping.” He said angrily. “What? Do you want to eat? Araso, I’ll make one for you.”
“No,” he said immediately. Remembering how awful the dinner that night had been. “I’m going out. If they come looking for me tell them not to bother. I’ll go home.”
                “Okay…”
But he wasn’t sure if he really understood what they talked about. He sighed and headed for the door. That girl really rocks his world.
~~
He went out of his car and saw her. She was wasted. Sitting on the ground like a duck, but still she managed to give him a smile.
“Oh…oppa’s here!” she gave him a hug.
“Yah…why did you drink too much?” He lifted her up; trying to shake the warm feeling she’s giving him. “Why are you here?”
She looked at him. “I was waiting for you…aaaahhh…I was soooo bored…” She removed his hands around her waist and walked wobbly to the back of the car. “Jajan!”
She lifted a bottle of makkoli. “Let’s drink some more!”
He took it from her. “You can’t drink anymore. You’ve had too much to drink.”
She hiccupped and covered her mouth. “I can’t stop laughing. Is this how it felt like to be drunk? *hiccup* I like it! If I had known drinking felt this good, I should have done it before.” She followed her words with laughter. She’s the only person like this in the middle of the night. She’s too energetic.
Hopeless…he thought to himself before opening the bottle in his hand. Come to think of it, he hasn’t taken a drink for almost three months now. He might as well drink for now. He felt the hot liquid rush down his throat. Alcohol really feels good during cold nights.
“Spring is coming…I love springs but I hate the pollens sticking in my hair.” She sat on the hood of the car and tapped the space beside her. “Sit here oppa.”
And he did as he was told. “Why did you drink all of a sudden?” He twirled her hair around his finger. “It’s silly,” he said referring to the bow on her head. “Remove it. And why are you always changing your hair color? Do you want to get bald?”
She reached for her head and removed the pins that held her hair. “I’ll do whatever Yesung oppa tells me to do. What color do you want? I’ll change my hair for you. Do you want it straight or curly? Long or short? Whatever you want, just tell me.”
What a submissive girl. She’s letting him to boss her around. “If I cut your hair this short will you be angry with me?” He placed his finger just below her ear. “Just like a man.”
She shook her pretty head. “I love Jong-woon oppa too much to be angry…go…do whatever you want with my hair.”
He laughed and she leaned on him. “I like it when oppa laughs. I like your voice.” She sighed. “I’m sad, celebrating my birthday alone every year. When you refused me, I thought I would die.”
She linked an arm with him and rested her head on his shoulder. “Do you know? I hate being me. My parents are always not around. But when they are, they treat me so much like a princess; even buying me this stupid car for my birthday.” She tapped the hood of the car playfully. “As if they could bribe me.”
He listened to her rants and complaints of being rich. He dreamed of being rich, but it doesn’t look good coming from a rich girl’s mouth. Being left alone, being vulnerable, and being innocent and worse of all, being ignorant.
“Do I look like I don’t know anything? Yes, I’m childish. But I finished college and I’m on top.” She sighed. “Is it bad being like me? Sometimes I want to hate my parents raising me the way they did. But that’s not right. I love omma and appa so much. Is it bad that I have a weak body? I always get sick when I work. I hate working because of that.”
She released his arm. “It’s a sin that I’m a weakling. I want to work. I want them to be proud of me. But I’m not capable of working. Me and my stupid body, they’re useless.”
She screamed at the top of her lungs. Tears were starting to flow from her eyes. “I hate myself! Why do I have to live this way?! I should have been born to a poor family; at least I will learn to live on my own. I’m a useless piece of trash living inside a mansion filled with nothing but expensive monsters! Aliens!”
He hugged her shaking body. She trembled and cried the hell out of her. “I’m worthless. I’m even worthless than a crumpled paper. I should have died when omma gave birth to me. But if I did, how can I meet you?” She held onto his shirt like it was her life. “Just take me with you and tell me that everything is nothing but a dream and I will believe you, oppa.”
He let her rest and cry. Poor kid owns nothing but wealth. “I can’t take you. I’m just living in a dorm you know.”
“Oppa, just marry me. I will work. I will serve you until I die. I will be good to you and follow you.”
That shocked him. “Yah, what are you talking about?”
                “Oppa, saranghae…”
She was sincere! It was in her eyes and he would be a fool not to see it. But this child…she was just a kid. She was like a sister to him. How can she give him that type of love?
                “(Name)~ssi…”
“Oppa, ” she hiccupped. “I promise…I will be good. I will do nothing to make you feel burdened.”
He shook her. “(Name)~ssi, you’re just drunk.”
“I know what I’m saying and I’m sure you’re Jong-woon oppa. I may be drunk but I’m a sane person.”
                “But…but you’re just like a sister to me…”
She stopped. Looking at him wide-eyed and not blinking. “S—sister? Oppa…”
“Look now, you’re too young for me. We’re good friends aren’t we? ”
She pushed him gently and she clasped her mouth. “Sister…why?”
                “Why?” he asked.
She stood up and walked to the side of the car. “Is it because I’m like this? I’m childish I know, maybe even stupid. But…sister? Oppa!”
He followed her and grabbed her hand. “Yah, why are you like this?”
She removed his hand. “Because I’m useless? An heiress without any direction? Do you think I’m just a spoiled brat? I tried to work but I only get sick. Is it because of that? Do you want me to try once more?”
                “No, (name)~ssi…it’s not that.”
“Why then? Just because I’m young? It doesn’t mean that I can’t love you.”
                “No…you don’t understand.”
She smirked but her eyes glittered. “I know right? I’m stupid. I don’t understand. I act like a brat. But do you know me? I thought you were different.”
She opened her car door and slammed it shut. “From now on, I will show you, I’m much more than what you can see. You will regret this.”
He moved out of the way just as she turned her car. He was afraid she might meet an accident at that speed so he tried to follow her. But her car’s too fast for his.
He cursed and hit the steering wheel. He dialed her number but she wouldn’t pick up. Since then, he hasn’t seen her. She wouldn’t answer his calls.
                “(Name)~ssi…”
~~
She looked at the man in front of her. He was the last person she would want to see that day. She wouldn’t want to see that face again. Not today, not tomorrow, not even the next day or the following days to come. She just wanted to erase that memory. His face that kept haunting her day or night. That man, she wanted to forget him. But how can she? When the one who remembers was not her mind but her heart…

A/N: I love writing A/Ns for this story…haha…so yeah…the girl’s really bratty and annoying sometimes but I still like her…^^ Please comment on this one…this is where the hate starts…Thank you for reading!

Part 2

“I don’t want!!” she screamed at her father, surprising the old man.
It was the first time she talked back to her father. Even her mother was startled seeing her like that. She threw the tablets away from her and stood up. She was dizzy but she tried to stop herself from looking like a sick person.
“Why? It’s for your own good. Just take it, sweetie.” Her mother ran a hand on her back trying to comfort her.
                She shrugged it off. “No!”
She pushed past her parents and went out. It was her third day at the hospital but she hasn’t taken any medicine since she was admitted. She wouldn’t take it even if it was her parents who asked her to drink it.
The nurses looked at her as she walked past them without looking. A frown was visible to her face, making her look angry. She was not. Actually, she was more annoyed than angry. She can’t be angry to her parents. She loves them so much to be angry at them.
She sighed before knocking at the door in front of her. How she wished he was not yet asleep. She opened the door and entered slowly. She heard the television; then he must be awake.
“Oppa…” she called but got no answer.
She went near his bed and saw that his eyes were closed. Her shoulders fell down. He was asleep. She wanted to talk to someone, and the only person available was him. They were stuck together he said. He doesn’t have any choice but to talk to her as well.
She pouted her lips. “It’s a bad timing…” she whispered.
But before she left, she decided to look some more. It will not hurt him. Yesung was very handsome. She likes his eyes. It was scary, but she likes it. His hands were small, just like hers. She has abnormal hands. Despite being tall, her hands don’t grow bigger. They have so much in common, making her like him all the more. But he doesn’t seem to feel the same. But of course that would be inevitable.
Jong-woon grew up a normal life; studied at normal schools, went out with normal friends. His family was normal. Everything about him was normal. Even being an idol is normal. Unlike her.
There were so many burdens in her being born in a rich family. All the responsibility of being the heiress haunts her. The companies, their properties. It’s messy and she doesn’t like it.
She sighed and reached for the remote control. She turned off the television and headed for the door.
“It’s so unlike you to just drop by and say nothing.”
She turned around and saw Yesung sitting up. “You’re awake.”
“I am now,” he scratched his head. “What brought you here in the middle of the night?”
She didn’t answer. What will she say to him?
“Ah, right. You’re hiding again aren’t you? The washroom’s available. Just go in there; you don’t have to ask for permission.”
She walked slowly and slumped on his couch. “Yeah, it’s like that. But I don’t need to run and hide inside your washroom. I just want to talk, but you were asleep so I thought I should not wake you up.”
He smiled, one she hasn’t seen him do in the past three days. He doesn’t smile to her, he smirks, or gives her a rotten smile. Sometimes he laughs at her when she looks foolish but never smiles to her like that. It was the first time.
“But I’m awake now. What do you want?”
His voice wasn’t sarcastic; it was like how an older brother would talk to her sister. Yes, he was older to her, about six years or so. But she doesn’t want him to talk to her like that; she wanted him to talk to her like a lover. Pervert! She said to herself. But that made a smile curl on her lips.
                You…
“Nothing much. Have you eaten dinner yet?” she smiled brightly. “I can cut the fruits.”
He looked at her curiously. “You’re just hungry.” He picked up a pear and threw it to her. “Go, eat it. I have many fruits. You’re always coming here to either hide or eat. All those fruits you gave me yesterday were all eaten by you.”
She stuck her tongue out. “You have a lot.”
He chuckled before getting off the bed slowly. “You won’t use my washroom? I’m gonna use it.”
She shook her head. “You go in there before making the room smell.”
He threw a pillow at her. It went straight to her face. For a moment, her perverted mind started to work overtime. Everything around her went Slow-Mo…she smelled him through the pillow. She didn’t move. Mouth hanging open, her hand still holding the pear.
“Crazy kid. You should find another room to hide.”
When he closed the door of the washroom, she can’t help but lie down the couch. She felt giddy. Yeah, she’s childish, just like a teenage girl who just saw her crush. She even forgot her real problem, but that’s normal. She doesn’t like to think of problems, it will only make her look ugly and older.
Remembering the word old, she touched her forehead. Massaging it because she had been frowning earlier. She can’t look old. Just look at Yesung…despite the old age…he still looks…
“HOT!! Kyaaaa!!!!” she sat covering her face with the pillow he threw to her and screamed there but the process just made her think of him more.
“Yah! What happened? What’s hot?” a limping Yesung went out of the washroom and hurriedly went to her. “What?”
She peeked and smiled, feeling the creeping redness up her face. “Nothing.”
And that earned her a hit on the head. “Get out!”
She smiled all the more to him. “Mianhae…hmm? Hmmm?” she blinked twice. Aegyo explosion.
Oh, how she loves it when he worries about her.
~~
Their meet-ups were always composed of non-stop talking, laughing and sometimes, even fighting. (Name)~ssi was really a hardcore girl, she’s so mulish. She doesn’t want to be beaten by anyone. But it can’t be helped because he always beats her at games.
It was really fun being with her. For a while, he forgot that he was in the hospital. He doesn’t visit the other members often for the past few days which made some of them curious about what he’s been up to. Yes, he was enjoying those days with her.
But as they say, all good things come to an end. That day, (name)~ssi went to his room not to hide but to bid him farewell. She’s going home after a few days of receiving her shots.
The nurses gave up on catching her just to make her drink her medicines so her doctors have decided to just give her shots. She can’t just push the needle away when it made contact to her skin because she was scared it will leave a mark. So she got no choice but let them do what they’re supposed to do and gave up being such a brat that she was.
“I want to stay some more…” she pouted her lips.
It was a habit he got accustomed to. She was just like a little kid whenever she doesn’t get what she likes. He leaned back to his bed, resting with his back on a pillow. “You can’t stay here forever you know. I will also leave soon. When I’m gone you’ll have to look for another prospect.”
And he knows she can’t find another room to hide.
She tried to once, when they fought over a slice of pizza which was given to him by his fans. But in the end, she just went back to his room saying that she was pointed out by everyone. He’s the only one letting him in!
“You know that even children point me out. Selfish people. ” She stood up. “When I go out, I will still visit you.”
“I don’t need a kid playing inside my room. You’re like my child. I don’t even have a wife but it felt like I have a daughter with me.”
She smiled. “You’re a lucky man if I’m your daughter!”
“Just imagine how much headache you gave your father in the past few days.”
She winced. He hit a nerve and he knows it. “But I’m a sweet child after all. Giving Yesung oppa a massage when I’m in the mood. You’re not even thankful.”
“You call that a massage?” he said referring to her so-called “massage”. “You only poked me on the back, I can’t even feel it.”
“At least I tried my best.” She proudly said.
Her phone rang and she answered it. “Yes, omma…ne…I’ll go out now.” She looked at him as if she doesn’t really want to go. “I’ll see you around then…thank you oppa.”
As she went out the door, a smile formed upon his lips. Peace at last! He can visit the other members again, and if he ever got lucky, he can touch their cupid’s bow again. That thought almost made him shout in triumph for having that one heck of a girl off his back.
                “Adios!”
~~
He was back to normal. It was quite boring again but not like before. His mother visited him and that made him really happy seeing her again after a very long time. Work has never been this light that they have to endure not seeing each other.
She made kimchi and stored it on his fridge. She also gave him lots of foods. Just how he missed eating her cuisine.
“Oh,” he answered his phone. “What?”
It was Ryeowook. “Hyung, we’re visiting you today.” His jolly voice echoed.
“Hyung! I don’t want to go!” Kyuhyun’s voice can be heard from the background. “Yesung hyung will only harass my philtrum again! I won’t go! I won’t go!”
It was a riot. All of them are speaking all at once making him want to throw the phone away. “Yah! Yah! One at a time, I can’t understand what you’re saying.”
“We’re near,” Siwon said grabbing the phone away from who knows who. “We’ll be there soon hyung, we’ll play with you so you won’t be bored.”
At last…he said to himself. It has been a while since they last visited. Eunhyuk has been very rude to him so he wouldn’t dare come close to his room, he’s still angry at him about the philtrum incident. Whenever he sees his head poke out from the door he’ll start throwing things or call the nurses, still banned.
“Okay, okay.” He smiled to himself before hanging the phone.
While waiting for them, he decided to watch a movie. “Let’s see…”
Just then somebody entered his room. A tall woman with wavy brown hair that reached her waist. Her skin were as white as ivory, lips as red as cherries. Her short black dress reached just above her knees complementing her long legs. Somewhat she looked familiar. It can’t be.
She removed her huge sunglasses and kept it inside her purse. “Oppa!” she squealed. “I missed you! You remember me don’t you?”
She turned around, the heels of her shoes clacking upon the marble floor. It was her. Again.
“Yah! Get out!” He threw a pillow to her. This woman again. She can’t just go inside his room anytime she wants.
She smiled. “Guess you do. Don’t be such an oldie, I came here to visit you and you don’t even thank me!”
What’s to thank about that? (Name)~ssi’s here again. She looked a lot different two days ago. Her skin was glowing now and her cheeks were puffier. She even curled her hair and died it brown. Before, it was long, straight and red. Freaky, right?
“Why are you here? Hiding again?”
She shrugged, “Maybe? Hmm…sort of I think.”  She laughed.
                “Hyung!”
Both of them turned their heads to the door. The boys entered the room one by one, Siwon and Kibum dragging Kyuhyun who was still struggling to get out and there was Ryeowook who was carrying a basket filled with foods he made, Yesung can smell it.
The moment they saw the woman standing in front of him, the chaos stopped and all off them stared at each other. She bowed at them hoping to be polite.
All of them bowed in unison, not Kyuhyun, he was still busy trying to remove the hands of the older ones. “Hyung,” it was Kibum. “We didn’t know you have a visitor.”
“I didn’t know she will be coming.”
While they were talking, Kyuhyun was sneaking out but Siwon caught him. “Where’s your manners?”
“I don’t have any!” He shouted. “Let me go, Yesung hyung will only—who’s that?”
The woman bowed and introduced herself. “Annyeong haseyo, choneun Song (name) imnida. Nice to meet all of you.” She walked near them. “Wow, you must be Ryeowook~ssi…can I ask you something?”
                He nodded.
                “Is it true?”
He gave her a questioning look. “What?”
                She coughed. “Ahhh…that…Yesung oppa…and you…are…lovers?”
“No!” Yesung shouted while Ryeowook hid his burning face behind the basket. “Where did you get such an idea?”
She looked at him, “I read it on portals, they always say Yewook… I just want to know.”
He shook his head. What’s gotten into this girl? She keeps on asking questions to the boys, but even so, she’s friendly and they got interested in her as well. They sat and kept on talking to each other forgetting that they were supposed to b e there for him.
“Yah…you’re supposed to be visiting me not that woman.”
Ryeowook stood up and gave him the basket of food. “You can eat on your own hyung.”
“You have a boyfriend?” Kyuhyun asked the girl.
                She nodded. “Yesung oppa!”
They all looked at him like he was some kind of an alien. “What? I’m not her boyfriend.” Yesung looked at her. “You…why don’t you just go home and go back to work?”
“I don’t want. If I go home now, they’ll just force me to work. If that happens, I’ll only get sick again and be stuck here—ah!” she clapped her hands and put on her shades. “I think I need to go, you just gave me an idea. That would be very great if I get sick again! I can just spend my days here with Yesung oppa…”
She blew him a kiss and headed for the door.
“What did she just say? Go to work and get sick?” Kibum looked at him. “That was one weird woman you got there hyung.”
For a while, he was deaf. What she said echoed in his head. Spend my days here…with him? He panicked opening his small eyes wide pointing at the door. “All of you, go catch that girl and bring her here now!!”
If that ever happens, he would be crazy as hell. Spend her days with him, no way!
“Don’t just look at me! Go get her!” he shouted at them. “Tie her up, cover her mouth shut. Let’s just put that woman on hostage, cage her, take her to a deserted isalnd! If she ever gets sick again, I’ll die without having any peace!”
But then, it wouldn’t be that bad, would it? Even if she’s kinda weird…no…it’s still better if she just kept her mouth shut. He can’t let her have what she wants no more. That brat. If he ever see that one again…he might as well go crazy!
